ABOUT LOIRE VALLEY
The Loire Valley is one of the major wine producing areas in France. Wine has been produced here for many hundreds of years. The Loire River rises in the Massif Centrale and wanders for some 1100 kilometres before discharging into the Atlantic Ocean south of the Brittany Peninsula and west of the ancient city of Angers.
The Valley is famous not only for its wines but also for its amazing number of castles, chateaux and other fortified buildings all of which can be seen in all their glory today. The Loire River passes through many appellations or wine districts; from those with a global reputation to those that may be lesser known but which all produce great wines of superb quality and style.
Every year, in the first week of February, all of the Winemakers of the entire Loire Valley, gather in the ancient city of Angers for their world famous wine fair called the "Salon des Vins de Loire". Invitation is normally limited to trade buyers and their clients only but this is where the suppliers and the buyers gather to meet all of the winemakers and taste all of their latest vintages. It is not only a serious trade fair but also one of great fun where one meets ones suppliers and renews friendships.
